Our shiny and radiant new year is here and it’s time to celebrate 2012!
Yes, I know I’m 21 days past 2012 by the strictest calendar, dot every “i” type standards. But this Delight Detective likes to ignore that calendar once in awhile and not fret so much about Time and ‘to-do’ lists.
Here in the Yes and Yay Universe, Time is flexible, expansive and generous. We believe it’s never too late to celebrate and honor your personal Ta-Da moments.
So here’s what I did: I took my sweet Time to gently shut the door on 2012 and savor the delights of my past year, bidding it a fond and proper farewell.
While I imagined some folks squealing out of their personal starting gates on January 1st, revving up their productivity engines, I chose to slow down and expand my Time.
A full two weeks slid by as I steadfastly ignored the ‘hurry up Frances you are already falling behind” voices and allowed myself some Time to Relax and Play. Yes indeed, Delight Detectives everywhere know a lot about the restorative properties of these two verbs!
Thus, I rang in 2013 with friends, music and dancing.
I read a couple of books, cooked a bunch of good food and took afternoon naps. (Yes!)
I knit up another pair of my favorite fingerless gloves in a luscious blue Malabrigo yarn.(Cozy!)
I took a road trip with Jeff and the girls and we played in the Canadian snow. (Lovely!)
And on a spectacularly Disco Ball Dazzling Day here at Yes and Yay HQ, I created a Celebration Play-sheet starring a bright orange sun.
And then I took out my trusty Sharpie markers and marked it up willy nilly. I plunged right into the painting without thinking about whether I’d make a mistake or write something silly. I wrote down every wonderful experience or accomplishment that I could think of. I’m pretty sure that I left out a bunch of stuff, but the painting still filled up quickly.
I hung “Celebrate 2012” on my studio wall as a sunny and congratulatory reminder of the many ‘next steps’ I took last year.
Now, having taken a leisurely path to properly tuck 2012 into bed, I’m ready to shine my big beam of de-Light into 2013.
And rather than wait until next January, I’ve decided to celebrate my Ta-Da moments each week (that’s 52 Ta-Da Times!), rather than once.
I shall:
1) Create a relaxing Oasis of Joy with my
a) favorite music, b) delicious beverage, and c) a scrumptious morsel of chocolate;
2) Take out a fresh Ta-Da Play-sheet; and
3) Celebrate my accomplishments and the goodness of my life in the visual way I know and love: with my trusty Sharpie markers!
I shall then place my completed stack of Ta-Da Playsheet Evidence where I can continue to see and celebrate it.
Voila!
And here’s the marvelous part:
You have arrived at the Yes and Yay Ta-Da Celebration Party, at exactly the right Time!
And I’ve created a special party favor (gift!) just for you:
Here’s your mission:
1) Download my Ta-Da Playsheet set;
2) Print it out, draw, paint, mark it up and morph it to suit your needs;
3) And then go ahead and create your special oasis of Time, in your own beautiful way, to note and celebrate your Ta-Da moments.
As you consider your growing pile of Ta-Da Play-Sheet evidence, please realize just how important your spark and the gifts you share are.
Your sparks do matter. Each little step you take to share your gifts, each time you notice what delights and inspires you , you light up our Universe. Hooray!
Our sparks make the Universe SPARKLE!
And this, my friends, is a very fine reason to celebrate each day.
In Delight,
PS Delight Detectives love to dish out hoorays! Share your Ta-Da Play-sheet(s) on Facebook, or Tweet to @fcfawcettartist, #FCFtada2013 for an enthusiastic round of applause from our growing community.

Great post, Frances. I’m documenting the new year with iPhone photos of things that delight me — mainly “nature” photos from the back deck overlooking the lake, and of my grandchildren, who are the most constant source of delight in my life. Love you! d
Hi Den, I loved the last photo you sent along of the lake ice and winter birds. Beautiful! Yes to sharing more of your Ta-Da evidence with the rest of us!
I know somewhere DKC is smiling: we all enjoy taking Time to notice and share what makes our heart sing. Hugs to you and Robin! xo
Oh my goodness, Frances – we might be Kindred Spirits!! I have had that very same pattern for fingerless gloves on my “one day I will make these and they will be AWESOME” list AND I can’t go near my local knitting shop without drooling over ALL of the malabrigo yarn… Sigh. I have a skein sitting in my stash bin… And I knit up my daughter the most adorable little hat with a skein that I bought cause I couldn’t stop touching it (and felt like I could TASTE it through my fingers – is that weird?!?!). (as an aside, now I don’t knit anymore… It’s been 2 years – I was a knitting machine in the 6 weeks before baby #2 was born and haven’t picked up the needles since he came out! The poor little knit ladybug doll just needs wings and to have her limbs attached to her…!).
Thank you for this post – it was lovely!
Hi Annie! These gloves are super fun and easy to make. Kindred spirits yes!
I’ll wager that at some point you’ll get the urge to knit again…but it sounds like your life is very full indeed!
I go through long stretches without picking up the needles, and they patiently wait for me to return to them. : )
Cheers to yoU!
Happy New Moment! Happy Ta Da Day!
My moment to moment resolution is to thrive with good and uplifting purpose. I have no idea how I am doing because how would I know? I know it feels like a worthy goal, and I know that I am joyful and grateful to get to have a go at it!
Patanjali’s Yoga Sutra I-3 is:
TADA drastuh svarupe vasthanam
I think of it whenever I think of Ta Da!
The meaning is lovely too:
When we tame our runaway mind and eliminate distortions and distractions, we dwell in our own true splendor.
And Frances, I delight in your splendid creativity, generosity and JOY!!!
Hi Julie! I love the “Happy New Moment” sentiment and one of my resolutions this year is to relish those moments more!
Thanks for sharing the TA sutra – it’s lovely. And I sure think you are in your right and light-filled spot in the Universe – you continue to inspire me with your wise insight, wicked (in the BEST sense of the word!) humor and wit and most of all your gigantic overflowing heart. I’m excited to hear how your yoga studio plans are shaping up!
Dear friend – you shine!
Hugs from here,
F
